At the International Life Cycle Academy, we believe that passionate educators are the spark that ignites sustainable thinking in future generations. That is why we created our scholarship programme, breaking down financial barriers to help university teachers bring LCA methodology into classrooms worldwide.
About the scholarship programme
The LCA Teaching Scholarships are designed to bridge the gap between academic excellence and financial accessibility. These scholarships enable dedicated educators to attend high-quality LCA courses and gain valuable knowledge in Life Cycle Assessment, enhancing their ability to teach and inspire the next generation of sustainability professionals.
The initiative reflects ILCA’s commitment to democratising access to high-quality LCA education and ensuring that geographical location or institutional budget limitations do not prevent passionate teachers from advancing their expertise.
This initiative not only benefits the individual educators but also creates a multiplier effect, as each scholarship recipient will return to their institution equipped to educate numerous students in LCA methodologies and applications.
2026 Scholarship Application Process
Our 2026 search for educators kicked off in June, with teachers from around the world applying before our 15 August deadline. We received 21 applications, of which 16 fulfilled the eligibility criteria. Candidates were asked to demonstrate:
- Academic foundation: A solid grasp of LCA basics and an active university teaching position
- Sustainability focus: Courses that explore environmental impacts and sustainability assessment
- Vision for impact: Clear plans for integrating LCA concepts to enrich student learning experiences
- Institutional backing: Support from their universities for implementing curriculum enhancements and attending an ILCA course
2026 Scholarship Recipients
After reviewing applications from talented educators across the world, three individuals stood out:
- Assistant Professor Brook Tesfamichael Teferra (Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia)
- Dr. Jamilu Salisu (Modibbo Adama University, Nigeria)
- Dr. Zainab T. Yaqub (University of Ilorin, Nigeria)
We congratulate these three educators on their scholarships and are thrilled to welcome them into our ILCA community. When they return to their classrooms armed with new insights and methodologies, they will help shape a generation of environmentally conscious professionals across three continents.
