REGIONALISED LCIA FOR BEGINNER AND INTERMEDIATE BRIGHTWAY USERS (3 DAYS)

The course

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Participants will:

  • Understand Brightway’s architecture and data flow.
  • Build and analyse complete LCA systems in Python.
  • Perform uncertainty and sensitivity analyses.
  • Handle data linking and exchange.
  • Use Edges to perform spatially resolved LCIA, inventory flow assessment, and scenario-based LCIA.
  • Reproduce and extend examples using open-source code provided on GitHub.

Lectures + Hands-on workshops (total of 24 hours)
Preparation: Reading list & Software installation (up to 16 hours)

Software: All tools used (Brightway 2.5, Edges) are fully open-source
Data: An open LCA database will be provided
Repository: All course materials, examples, and exercises will be distributed and maintained on GitHub. The GitHub repository remains available with all notebooks, slides, datasets, and solutions for continued learning.

PARTICIPANTS REQUIREMENTS

To ensure that everyone can fully benefit from the course, participants are expected to meet the following prerequisites:

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with LCA principles: We will not cover the fundamentals of LCA, so participants should already understand core LCA concepts (functional units, system boundaries, impact assessment, etc.).
  • Basic Python skills: Participants should be comfortable with basic Python syntax and simple operations (variables, functions, lists, loops). Those new to Python should to complete a short introductory tutorial before the course.
  • No prior Brightway experience required
  • You must bring own laptop computer, with software installed according to installation instructions provided in advance of the course.

PRICE

3600 Euro for professionals / 1800 Euro for university staff / 900 Euro for students.

Half price for second and following persons from the same institution in the same or lower cost categories.
