Dear fellow LCA students, teachers, and course developers,

I teach students in a final-year project course on early-stage (conceptual and preliminary) design engineering of industrial processes, where students are exercising design-stage choices (equipment, flowsheet configuration, feedstock selection, e.g., around distillation, reactor, or separation-unit design) under significant data and time constraints. I would like to attend a course that can help me to integrate LCA methodology into this setting, i.e., grounded in a practical, design-stage application (rather than purely retrospective/attributional LCA of existing systems). For my teaching, I plan to introduce openLCA as the modeling platform, linked to an LCA database that is free and accessible for a large student cohort in a resource-constrained setting.
If anyone knows of a course that addresses my needs, please let me know, since I have received a scholarship from the International Life Cycle Academy that allows me to either attend or co-develop such a course.
Likewise, if you are in the same situation as I, looking for a course on this topic, and have sufficient funding to attend, please let me know, so we can estimate how large the demand for such a course is.

The 2026 scholarship winners announcement

Before the summer break, ILCA announced the offering of a new scholarship opportunity to support university teachers who wanted to attend our courses and improve the incorporation of Life Cycle Assessment into their curriculum. This initiative was aimed at helping passionate educators gain valuable knowledge in Life Cycle Assessment, even if they or their institutions didn’t have the financial means to join our regular courses.
The winners of the 2026 ILCA scholarship for educators
We received 21 applications, out of which 16 fulfilled the eligibility criteria, but these three stood out above the rest:

To make our decision we looked at each candidate’s teaching experience, commitment to incorporating LCA methodology in course curriculum, and demonstrated ability to benefit their students with enhanced LCA knowledge.
